Lurl Mossholder, 90, of Westby, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Lurl was born to Adam and Bertha Mossholder, the youngest of eight children, on October 14, 1926. He enjoyed school and graduated from Westby High at age 16. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1949, stationed in Seattle and Hawaii. Lurl married Dorothy Downing on November 1, 1952. He worked at the Trane Company from the spring of 1950 to the fall of 1988. During these busy years of raising four children he also did some carpentry, cabinetry, raising tobacco, and car painting. He discovered he enjoyed cars in a big way. What began as a hobby led to a long friendship with Lavon "Spanky" Felton of Sleepy Hollow in Viroqua that brought him a great joy well into his eighth decade. Lurl and Dorothys other great passion was dancing. At one time they belonged to four dance clubs in the area. Lurl is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children: Mark (Lori) of Tomah, and Cheri (Mike) Miotke of Washington Island; four grandsons: Damion, Avery, Jonathan, and Tony and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and two daughters: Donna Savor and Brenda Perry. A Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Pastor John Nourse of Washington Island, WI will officiate with burial in the Bloomingdale Cemetery to follow a luncheon at the Westby Community Center.
