Lyall Paul Barnes, age 98, of Richland Center, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. He was born on June 9, 1928, in Boaz to the late Leron and Gladys (Jones) Barnes. He graduated from Richland Center High School. He entered the U.S. Army on October 24, 1950. He served in Camp Polk, LA, Japan, and served on the front lines of the Korean War with the 45th Thunderbird Division 279th Infantry Regiment, Co. A, 1st Platoon. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 10, 1952. Lyall married Alta Rae Turner on July 24, 1954, at the EUB (now Methodist) Church in Boaz, WI. Lyall was a livestock hauler and dealer. During his retirement, he enjoyed auctions and rummage sales. Whatever he was doing, he enjoyed telling jokes and talking to people.
Lyall is survived by two daughters, Judy (Dan) Kirchoff, French Island, Amy (Garry) Bahr, St. Joseph Ridge; two grandsons, Patrick Little, Minneapolis, MN and Ethan Little, Steamboat Springs, CO; his step-grandsons, Carter and Brennan Bahr; his brother, James Barnes of Sun City, AZ; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alta Barnes and his brother, Roger (Della) Barnes.
Lyall’s family would like to thank all of Lyall’s amazing friends and neighbors that checked in and looked after him these last few years with such love and compassion.
A Celebration of Lyall’s Life will be held from Noon until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the Coon Valley American Legion. Lyall will be laid to rest at the Viola Cemetery.
