Lynn P. Fortun, age 58 of Viroqua, died suddenly at her home on Thursday, March 1, 2012 of an aortic aneurysm. She was born on November 24, 1953 in Viroqua to George and Dolores (Dickerson) Piper. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1971. She earned her Masters Degree in Speech/Language Pathology from the University of Northern Iowa, and also earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence. She was a Speech Clinician for Richland Center and Viroqua Area Schools and was also in private practice. On May 17, 1979, while at Nates Supper Club, the love of her life asked her out on their first date: Larry and Lynn were married on August 10, 1982 in Rapid City, SD. Lynn was a fearless woman with a larger-than-life personality and boundless energy. She was passionate about her apple orchard and sharing it with family and friends. She will be remembered for cruising Main Street in her convertible and for the roar of the engine of her 442. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, pop-tart theory, multiple candy drawers, and her life philosophy that "more is better." In addition to her husband, Larry, she is survived by her parents, Doc and De Piper of Viroqua; two step-daughters: Trudy Fortun of Viroqua and Michele (Chris) Kvikstad of Mendota Heights, MN; granddaughter, Grace Lohr; grandsons: Spencer and Gavin Kvikstad; two brothers: Dane (Juliet) Piper of Viroqua and Gregg (Beth) Piper of Wauwatosa; two nephews and two nieces: Dana Piper, Ross Piper, George Piper, and Elizabeth Piper; her special best friends, Kim Littel of Viroqua and Joan Adler of Rochester, MN. She was preceded in death by her beloved Great Danes: Diggy, Shasta, and Hailey. Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St. (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. On Tuesday, March 6, 2012 there will be a casual gathering (fondly referred to as "POETS") of family and friends celebrating Lynns life at Firehouse Restaurant (Nates) in Viroqua beginning at 4:00 p.m. with an informal service at 6:00 p.m. Online condolences may be offered at www.vossfh.com.
