Mabel Bekkum, 94, died Friday, October 10, 2014. WESTBY/LA CROSSE Mabel Bekkum, 94, of La Crosse died Friday, October 10, 2014. She was born September 20, 1920 to Helmer and Marie Hanson. On February 14, 1942 she married Ernest Bekkum. She farmed for most of her life and later owned and operated The Dairy Bar in Westby. She worked many years and retired from Accelerated Genetics. She accompanied Ernest on the piano when he played his fiddle at many community events. After she retired, she moved to La Crosse in 1979 and was a "snow bird" in Florida for 18 years. She is survived by her son, Victor (Kathy) Bekkum of Cumberland, WI, her daughters: Lois (Norman) Sanwick of La Crosse, Betty (Karl) Arps of Chilton, Ellen Hendrix of Murrieta, CA; Brenda (Joseph II) Terranova of The Villages, Florida, Marsha (Jim) Beck of Leavenworth, KS; her grandchildren: John (Lori) Bekkum, Everett (Melissa) Bekkum, Jeff (Amy) Sanwick, Holly (Kyle) Kisiel, Jenny (Jean Paul) Szita, Matt (Tracy) Michels, Annalise Arps, Candi Nichols, Jill (Vince) Lombardi, Tyler Moen, Joe (Nisha) Terranova III, Phil (Lauren) Terranova, and Marc (Heather) Terranova; 21 great grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; her sisters, Pearl Overgard, and Dee (Curt) Larson; her sister-in-law Shirley Hanson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, Everett, her sister Hazel Blihovde, her brothers, Harold Hanson and Orion Hanson; her brothers-in law: Melvin Bekkum, Orville Blihovde, and Leonard Overgard; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Lisa Bekkum. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Westby Coon Prairie Church. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial to follow in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 AM till the time of service at 11.
