VIROQUA Mallie L. Gald, age 92, died Tuesday March 13, 2018 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Mallie Lorrine Offerdahl Gald, age 92, died and was welcomed into her eternal home Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Mallie was born on February 15, 1926 to James and Anna Nelson Offerdahl in Viroqua. She attended Round Prairie school, and graduated from Viroqua High school in 1944. Mallie was baptized at Main St Lutheran Church, now Good Shepherd, where she was confirmed by Reverend Kleven, and remained a member. Mallie's first job was in La Crosse at American Studios. Her sister Mabel requested she work in Viroqua and stay with her and her children while Mabel's husband was in the service. Mallie's experience as a bookkeeper started in 1950 at the County Hospital. Since then she continued as a bookkeeper at Northern Wisconsin Tobacco Pool, Nelson Mill & Agri Center, Vernon Memorial Hospital, and Schmidt Motors. She also served as Treasurer at Good Shepherd Lutheran. Mallie enjoyed keeping her home, built by her husband Alvin 2 years before they were married in 1960, which was later filled with furniture pieces he also made. Her friends and family enjoyed the fruits of her gardening & homemaking, such as raspberry jam, canned peaches, a coveted pecan pie and the best apple pie on the planet. Mallie traveled to several states including Alaska, as well as two trips to Norway where she met her Norwegian relatives. She especially liked Northern Wisconsin vacations and road trips to visit her grandchildren. Mallie continued to enjoy her new homes at Maplewood Terrace and Vernon Manor, where she renewed acquaintances and made new friends. A special thank you to the caregivers and nurses who provided skilled care and many kindnesses. Mallie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is survived by daughters Charlene Gulbrandsen & husband Lyder Gulbrandsen, Shari Gald, grandchildren Paul Gulbrandsen, Annie (Gulbrandsen) & Jason Dell, Peter & Jackie Gulbrandsen, and great grandchildren Atticus and West Dell, and Maximus and Sawyer Gulbrandsen. She is further survived by sister-in-law Margelyn Gay, several exceptional nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, step daughter Linda Becker, sister Bertha, sister & brother in law Mabel & Raymond Thurin, brothers and sister-in-laws Otis & Arlene Offerdahl Johnson, Albon & Jean Offerdahl, Clarence & Avis Offerdahl, sister-in-law Marceille (Gald) Ostrem Slette, brother-in-laws Otis Ostrem, Obert Slette, brother-in-law Clarence Gay, and nephews James Gay and Donald Ostrem. Funeral Services for Mallie will be Saturday March 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 504 S. Main St., in Viroqua. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate with burial immediately following the service at Viroqua Cemetery.
