Manley Lunde, 88, of Viroqua died Saturday, March 12, 2011. Manley C. Lunde, age 88 of Viroqua, passed away March 12, 2011 at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua, WI, where he had been a resident for the past 5 years in the care of earthly angels. Manley was born September 26, 1922 to Alfred and Selma (Rude) Lunde in Vernon County where he lived his entire life. He was baptized and confirmed in the Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. He attended Seasbranch Elementary School, after which he started farming with his folks. On September 5, 1942 he was married to Gladys Torgerson at the Coon Prairie Lutheran parsonage by Reverend Holum. They were married for almost 64 years at the time of her death in 2006. They farmed outside of Westby and also rural Viroqua until deciding to sell in 1964 and moved to Viroqua. Manley worked as a carpenter for many, and became their friend through his honesty and hard work. He had to retire due to ill health but continued to build lots of things for his wife and children in his shop. Theyll treasure these things forever. His declining health made the move to Vernon Manor necessary in 2005. The staff at the manor became a second family to him and we are eternally grateful for their love and wonderful care. Manley is survived by his 3 children, Gloria (Myron) Burke, Viroqua, Rodney (Anita) Lunde, Vicki Kinserdahl, Westby; his grandchildren: Jessica (Todd) Hill, Westby, Paul (Emily) Kinserdahl, Viroqua, his special loves the great grandchildren which called him Papa, Trinity Hill and Carter Hill and Paul and Emily, unborn-due in August; 3 sisters-in-law, Sue Lunde, Glendale AZ, Sylvia Larson and Harriet Torgerson, Westby; plus numerous nieces and nephews, family and friends. Manley was preceded in death by his wife Gladys; son Allan John; his first grandson Tristan Hill; his parents; his in-laws John and Mathilda Torgerson; Sisters Alida Hanson and Lilah Swiggum; a brother Harry Lunde; several sisters and brothers-in-law. Thanks go out again to the staff of Vernon Manor for the trusted care you gave our father. God bless every one of you. Alzheimers is a cruel and dreadful disease which steals our loved ones from us slowly. We pray God will help in finding a cure so no one need go through the long goodbye anymore. Blessed be the memory of our dear father, grandfather and Papa. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W.
