Marcella "Marcy" Louise Thorson

Marcella “Marcy” Louise Thorson, age 95, of Viroqua, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Soldiers Grove Health Services. She was born on April 25, 1929, to the late Leo Banks and Ann Isabelle (Tunget) Hodgeman in Garden City, KS. On August 11, 1947, she was united in marriage to George Thorson in Pontiac, IL. Together they farmed for many years in Illinois until moving to Wisconsin in 1958, where they continued farming. Marcy was a very supportive wife and in her later years, worked in the dietary department at Vernon Memorial Hospital and Vernon Manor.

They enjoyed travelling and wintered in Arizona and Florida in their motorhome. Marcy loved quilting, making them for family members and friends. She had a passionate love for her family, cherishing all the time she spent with them. Marcy also had a huge love for her dogs, which she had up until the last few years. In the fall of 1970, she received Jesus Christ as her Savior, and she was a faithful member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Viroqua.

Marcy is survived by her children: Patty (Jim) Burckhardt, Terry (Kay) Thorson, and Deb (Mark) Walker; eight grandchildren: Michele (Tom) Frydenlund, Sean (Maryann) Burckhardt, Matt (Melissa) Thorson, Luke (Michele) Thorson, Ann (Ryan) O’Donnell, Brian (Rose) Walker, Rachel (Travis) Brothen, and Alissa (Ben) Baker; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Fred Hodgeman and Carol (Lee) Madsen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, George; her brother, Eddie; her granddaughter, Jennifer Burckhardt; and her sister-in-law, Kish Hodgeman.

Marcy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Soldiers Grove Health Services for their compassionate, comforting, and exceptional care they've given her these last 3 1/2 years.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. A visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Marcy will be laid to rest at the Viroqua Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone Christian Academy or Lighthouse Baptist Church in Marcy's memory.
