Margaret A. Cannon, 94, of Victory -DeSoto, Wisconsin and formerly of Westgate, Iowa, died on Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2015 at the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care in Viroqua. Margaret Anna Mohlis was born September 14, 1920 in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of John & Mathilda (Suhr) Mohlis. Margaret was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. She received her education at the Westgate School. Margaret was united in marriage to Robert Herman Cannon on October 7, 1939 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. In her early years Margaret was a housekeeper, helped with the chores on the farm, cared for the Birdnow children when their mother passed away when they were young and raised her two children. She worked at several homes in Oelwein to care for the elderly and then at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein for 27 years. In 1996 she moved to Victory, Wisconsin and continued her work at Thorton Manor in Lansing, Iowa until she retired at the age of 85. Margaret worked a total of 45 years as a C.N.A. Margaret was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein and the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lansing, Iowa. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, vegetable and flower gardening, canning, fishing and her kittens. Left to cherish her memory are her Daughter: Diane (Richard) Tielbur of Victory, Wisconsin; Daughter-in-law: Mary Lou Cannon-Turner of Sumner; 5 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great Great Grandchildren and 2 Sisters-in-law: Gloria Mohlis of Independence; Frances Weber of Sumner and Special Friends: Gloria and Chris. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Robert on April 15, 1987, son: Norbert and 2 brothers: Archie Mohlis and Fritz Mohlis. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Friends may call from Noon to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday at the church. Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery, rural Westgate, Iowa. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home is serving the family.
