Margaret C. Skrede

Margaret (Paulson) Skrede, age 88, of LaCrosse and formerly of Westby, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 . Margaret (Paulson) Skrede, age 88, of LaCrosse and formerly of Westby, died and went home to be with her Savior and Lord Jesus early Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009, at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in La Crosse. She was born April 12, 1920, outside of Westby to Eddie and Ella (Olson) Paulson. She graduated from Westby High School and Vernon County Teacher's College (Normal School). She taught elementary school until united in marriage to Conrad Skrede on October 10, 1942. They spent the last three years at St. Joseph's in LaCrosse. They farmed all of their married life. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Westby. She had taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent. She loved and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of relatives, friends and neighbors. Her family enjoyed her, her lovely quilts, many sewn garments, delicious meals and baked goods. She is survived by her four daughters, Rachel Skrede of LaCrosse, Rebecca (Fred) VanVeen of Mission Viejo, CA, Karen Skrede of Mission Viejo, CA and Ruth (Michael) Fortun of Onalaska; five grandchildren, Sheila (Scott) Winston, Eric VanVeen, Chad (Katie) Fortun, Joshua (Leah) Fortun and Scott VanVeen; and six great-grandchildren, Luke Winston, Emily Winston, Julie VanVeen, Austin Fortun, Carter Fortun and Dylan Fortun. Margaret loved her family very much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Skrede and sibling, Eleanor Paulson. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church in Westby. Friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Pastor Jim Folz will officiate, with burial in the Bethesda Cemetery. Conrad and Margaret so appreciated the loving staff and wonderful place to stay at St. Joseph's. The family thanks the staff with much love and appreciation. Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
