Margaret L. Mcgregor

Margaret L. McGregor, 91 of Westby and formerly of Viroqua, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013 Margaret L. McGregor, 91 of Westby and formerly of Viroqua, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Gundersen Lutheran Hospice Care. Margaret was born May 29, 1921 in Alta, Iowa to Hilda and Carl Oscar Johnson. She graduated from Alta High School in 1939 and worked for a year at the Polar Dairy in Alta to earn money to go to nursing school in Oak Park, Il. She worked as a nanny while attending school, graduating in 1945 as a Registered Nurse. Margaret worked in the Navy Cadet Corp and would have served in the Navy if the war hadnt ended. On June 16, 1946 Margaret married John McGregor. They farmed in Cherokee, Iowa, until moving to Viroqua in 1963. Mom worked at Vernon Memorial Hospital until retiring at age 65. She is survived by one son, Michael (Sandy) McGregor of Viroqua; three daughters: Carol (Mark) Brye of Westby, Diana (Tim) Snow of Kansas City, MO, and Nancy (Henry Buus) McGregor of Viroqua; seven grandchildren: Todd McGregor, Heidi (Tim Sharp) McGregor, Troy (Kathy) McGregor, Cory (Lynn) Brye, Sarah (Mark) Davis, Zachary and Casey Snow; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie; her husband, John, who died on December 23, 2000; and five brothers: Harold, Everett, Carl, Alvin, and Ralph. Blessed be our memory of Margaret L. McGregor. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
