Listen to Obituary

Margaret J. “Peggy” Ryan, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Schmitt Woodland Hills in Richland Center, WI following an extended illness.

Margaret, known to all as Peggy, was born on September 12, 1948, to Bill and Etta Ryan of Rolling Ground, WI. She attended Mook School in Rolling Ground and later graduated from Gays Mills High School. She married James Tillotson, and they had one son, Michael.

Peggy worked for several years at O’Brien Brothers in Richland Center before moving to Waunakee, where she began her career with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk. After many years there, in search of warmer weather, she moved to San Antonio, Texas. She continued her USPS career as a mail handler and clerk at the AMF until her retirement.

After retirement, Peggy returned to Wisconsin and settled in Prairie du Chien, where she lived until moving to an assisted living community.

Peggy enjoyed reading, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with her grandson. She treated everyone she met with kindness and will be remembered as a cherished friend, deeply missed by many.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Etta Ryan; her sister, Mary and her brother, Ben. She is survived by her son, Michael (Angie) Tillotson and her beloved grandson, Benjamin, of Platteville, WI; her sisters, Cathie (Dwayne Polensky) Ryan of Richland Center, Becky Ryan of Muscoda, and Dorothy (Jim) Walsh of Appleton, WI; two nieces and four nephews; a very special long-time friend, Jayne Brewer, who faithfully visited her many times each week while Peggy was a member of the Schmitt Woodland Hills family; along with many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at a later date.

Peggy’s family extends special thanks to the staff of Schmit Woodland Hills for the kind and compassionate care they provided during her time there.
