Margaret Lillian Thies, 83, of Viroqua died Thursday, August 12, 2010. Margaret Lillian Thies, 83, of Viroqua died on Thursday, August 12,2010 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Margaret was born on October 19, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA. to Frank and Lillian (Hutka) Yost. Margaret was raised in New Jersey, graduating from Merchantville High School. After high school, she worked as a secretary in the city of Philadelphia. She met and married her husband George, who was a dairy farmer in the South Jersey area, on April 7, 1946. Their family grew to include seven children, which kept Margaret quite busy as a homemaker. In 1973, they moved to Chaseburg, Wisconsin to continue dairy farming with their three youngest children. Margaret and George retired in 1985 to the Baptist Estates in Viroqua, while their youngest son, Timothy, took over the farm. Margaret had a love of traveling and was fortunate to travel to the Holy Lands, Hungary, and Hawaii with her beloved sister, Shirley. After her husband's retirement, she convinced him to travel as well. The first trip she booked was to the Calgary Stampede in Canada, which seemed to work like a charm in getting him interested in travel also. They eventually took many tours together, some of which included trips to Alaska, Florida, and Texas, just to mention a few. Church life and staying close to the Lord were most important to Margaret. She loved being involved with many activities at Bethlehem Baptist Church and her church family. She enjoyed singing in the choir and good fellowship with her friends at church. She was also a member of the Sentimental Singers at the senior center in Viroqua. Margaret was always welcome to a good game of Scrabble, and taught others how to play like a champ. These activities helped her cope after her husband passed away. Margaret is survived by her children Linda (Will) Robbins, of Washington, George Jr(Donna) and Jeffery(Gaile) Thies, Lorraine(John) Pasquale of New Jersey, Brian (Linda) Thies of Westby, Timothy (Theresa) of Chaseburg, and Esther (Dan) Law of Colorado; 14 grandchildren, and one great grandbaby. She is preceded in death by her husband George; her parents; sister Shirley Lamb; and her brothers Jackie, Bill, Frank, and Paul. Margaret would want to be remembered for her strong faith, her family, and her good heart. She valued each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandbaby as individuals. Her strong faith and character will always live on through them. Funeral services will held at 11am on Tuesday, August 17, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Viroqua. Pastor Roy Tellier will officiate with burial in Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4t0 6 pm at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church from 10 am until the time of the service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral home is serving the family. Have a wonderful day!!!
