Marie Borgen, 97, of Westby died Saturday, August 04, 2012. Marie D Borgen, 97 of Westby died on Saturday August 4, 2012 at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. Marie was born in Dell, WI on June 17, 1915 to Cassius and Grace (Hall) Smith. She married Roy Borgen in 1934. They owned and operated a dairy farm, after selling that they operated a small grocery store in Westby, and later she worked Borgens Caf and at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. Marie was a member of Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and WELCA. Marie is survived by Son-In-Law Harlan Olson of Westby, four grandchildren Jennifer Johnson of La Crosse, Jerrold (Debra) Olson of Eau Claire, Annette (David) Christianson of La Crosse, Tom (Susan) Olson of Shorewood, IL. 10 great grandchildren: Tessa Johnson of La Crosse, Dr. Neil (Joanna) Olson of Duluth, MN, Jennifer (Kurt) Vale of Stoughton, Anna (Dave) Pond of Rice Lake, Kyrsten Olson of Eau Claire and Kjell Olson of Eau Claire, Lee Christianson of San Clemente, CA, and Erik (Tina) Christianson of Murietta, CA, Kristina and Alexander Olson of Shorewood, Il. Four great-great grandchildren: Madison Christianson of Onalaska, Alanna and Samantha Pond of Rice Lake, Jaren Vale of Stoughton. And very soon another great-great grandson of Duluth, MN. One sister Clementine Paulson of Janesville. Brian Johnson, a friend that she loved like a daughter Karen Ekern, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in1985, her son Arne in 1959 and her daughter Joyce in 2011. Three sisters, Lillian Alice, Doris Dewitt and Myra McMullen. Two brothers, Cassius Smith Jr. and Donald Smith. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Vossetiegs Funeral Home at 708 South Main St. (Hwy 14 S) Westby and prior to the service on Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday August 11, 2012 at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastors Dennis Hallemeier will officiate, with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. The family would like to send a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of the Norseland Nursing Home for the compassion and care they gave Marie. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorial contributions may be made to Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Maries name to the basement air conditioning fund. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
