Marie J. Oberson, age 108 of Westby and formerly of La Crosse, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 Marie J. Oberson, age 108 of Westby and formerly of La Crosse, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center where she had lived since November of 1996. She was born January 21, 1899 in rural Westby to Charles and Matthea (Olson) Homstad. She worked as a switchboard operator in Westby prior to moving to La Crosse, where she held a similar position at the La Crosse Telephone Co. She was united in marriage to Arvid O. Oberson on November 14, 1927. Her husband worked with T.V.A. dam construction, which moved them to various locations in the United States, as well as Iraq. They lived their retirement years in Harrison, Arkansas until Arvids death on July 11, 1970, at which time Marie moved to La Crosse.Marie is survived by loving nieces; Evelyn Sanders of Rockland, Ruby Olson of Rockland, Yvonne Homstad of La Crosse, and Agnes Schroeder of Viroqua; and nephews; Morris Amundson of La Crosse, Hans Amundson of Sparta, and William (Alice) Homstad of La Crosse.Marie is preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and eight brothers.Thank you to the staff of Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home.Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 1 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main (Hwy 14) in Westby. Rev Richard Pamperin will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery, rural Westby. Friends may call on Monday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby, at noon until the time of service. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
