Marjorie A. Emidy

Marjorie A. Emidy, 87, of Viroqua died Saturday, May 29, 2010. Marjorie "Marge" A. Emidy, age 87 of 323 Terrace Avenue, Viroqua, Wis. died on May 29, 2010. She was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on January 14, 1923. Marge was a daughter of the late Theodore J. Emidy and Rebecca V. Murphy. She graduated from Classical High in Worcester, Mass. in 1939; from Framingham State College in Framingham, Mass. in 1943 with a major in Foods and Nutrition; and completed a Dietetic Internship program at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill. in 1944. She worked for a number of years as a dietitian in hospitals on the east coast. Marge received a Masters Degree in Public Health Nutrition at the University of California in Berkeley, Calif. in 1959. Marge worked for nine years as a public health nutritionist with the Wisconsin Division of Health in Madison, Wis. before joining the staff of Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua as its first registered dietitian in 1968. She was a member of the American and the Wisconsin Public Health Associations and the American and Wisconsin Dietetic Associations, serving as president of the latter organization in 1974-1975. She retired from Vernon Memorial in 1983. An interest in genealogy led to memberships in the Cornwall (England) Family History Society, Rhode Island Historical Society, Wisconsin Genealogical Council, Vernon County Historical Society and Norskedalen Heritage Center. Besides her parents, Marge was preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen, Theodore and John Emidy. Marge is survived by a sister, Barbara T. (Henry) Pastick of Plymouth, Minn.; special friend, Winnie Stigen; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Viroqua. Father Robert Cook will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials may be given to charity of donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
