Marjorie S. (Stalheim) Nelson, 97, Altoona, formerly Westby, WI passed away, Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home, Altoona, WI where she had been a resident for the past 8 years. She was born, March 31, 1917 to Thomas and Thea (Estenson) Stalheim, Pigeon Falls, WI. She was the last baby her grandmother, Maria Estenson, delivered as a midwife. On October 17, 1936 she was united in marriage to Harold M. Nelson in Pigeon Falls, WI. They resided in Westby for most of their 60 wonderful years together. Marjorie worked at several business in Westby; Roehl's Dept Store, TriState Breeders and Tru Gas. They were very active in Our Saviors Lutheran Church rendering assistance whenever needed. She was well known for knitting booties for needy children, distributed by the church, making over 100 pair each year. She was an excellent cook and baker. Grandchildren always knew there would be sandbakkles and special treats to be had. Her recipes will never be duplicated because there was always a special touch or something added that didn't go quite like the measurements stated. Marjorie is survived by her sons; George (Sandy), Eau Claire, WI, Paul (Cheryl), Sparta, WI, daughter-in-law, Sharon, Cedar Rapids, IA; Grandchildren; Lori Nelson, Monticello, IA, Mark (Michelle) Nelson, Marion, IA, Julie (Theodore) Croy, Schertz, TX, Jeffery (Heidi) Nelson, Hudson, WI, Stephanie (Edward) Thomas, New Hope, MN, and Todd (Dina) Nelson, Greenwood, SC. Great-Grandchildren; Ashley (Kyle) Ishmael, Cambridge, IA, Jordan Harms, Monticello, IA, Kayla (Kyle) Tobert, St. Pasadena, MD, Kortnie Nelson, Marion, IA, Owen Nelson, Hudson, WI, Cole and Alli Rogers, Ames, IA, Zachary, Jacob and Samuel Thomas, New Hope, MN, Kaytlyn, Madelyn and Ashlyn Croy, Schertz, TX, Gabriel and Kristen Nelson, Greenwood, SC; Great-great-granddaughter; Bayleigh Janssen, Marion, IA and well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, son, John and granddaughter, Amy Rogers, sister, Norma and brother-in-law, William White. Throughout Marjorie's life, she was a inspiration to all who knew her. Her kind and gentle ways will always be remembered. Her family extends a very special thank you to the entire staff of Oakwood Villa for the excellent care and kindness she was given. We will forever be grateful for the care she received. They became part of her family during the past 8 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marjorie's memory may be directed to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Westby, WI or Oakwood Villa Nursing Home Activities Department, Altoona, WI. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor John Dumke will officiate with burial to follow in the Our Saviors Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 12 p.m. till the time of service at 1. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
