Marjorie Lou Walters passed peacefully into her heavenly home on February 8, 2026, at Norseland Nursing Home, after spending one final, cherished sleepover with her granddaughters, Rebecca and Amanda. Lovingly remembered for her kind heart, steadfast faith, and welcoming spirit, Marjorie was born on September 7, 1939, in Newton, Wisconsin, to Leif and Lilah (Rood) Myhre.

The oldest of eleven children, Marjorie embraced a life of service from a young age, spending many years helping her mother raise her younger brothers and sisters. Family was always at the center of her life, and she shared an especially close and cherished bond with her sister, Yvonne. Though she never had much in a material sense, Marjorie shared freely everything she had—most especially her time—giving countless hours volunteering at the food pantry and faithfully showing up for friends and neighbors whenever she was needed.

In April of 1957, Marjorie married Frederick Walters. Together they built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and love, and were blessed with two sons, Stephen and Thomas, who remained the pride and joy of her life.

Marjorie dedicated 36 years of service to the Viroqua Area Public Schools, working in the Nutrition Department. Fondly known by many as the “lunch lady,” she nourished generations of students not only with food, but with care, consistency, and a gentle presence.

Marjorie had a deep love for the Lord and treasured her church family. Her faith guided her daily life and shaped the way she served others. Her door was always open, her coffee pot always on, and anyone who stopped by was welcomed with warmth, conversation, and kindness. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed baking, gardening, painting, and writing poetry.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen Walters and Thomas (Jennifer) Walters; her beloved grandchildren, Caleb (Alisha) Walters, Rebecca (Daniel) Heidel, and Amanda (Adam) Bekkum, Lily Walters, Sam Walters, and her siblings, Yvonne (Bud) Parr, Lyndon (Sandy) Myhre, Bonnie (Jeff Billerbeck) Myhre, Linda (Jim) Hogenson, Donna (Roger) Harris, and Carolyn (Odell) Solverson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederick Walters, and her brothers, Roger Myhre and Richard Myhre.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at the Assembly of God Church in Viroqua. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Assembly of God Church.

The family extends a special and heartfelt thank you to the Norseland Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Marjorie’s final days.

Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home & Crematory is serving Marjorie's family.
