Listen to Obituary

Marlene Jeanette Buros, age 77, of Westby, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 18th, 2026. She was born in Viroqua on December 3, 1948, to Joslyn and Ona (Goplin) Hanson. She was also raised by Rosie and Curtis Volden.

Marlene graduated from Westby High School in 1967. She met the love of her life, Robert “Bobby” Buros while in high school but told him ‘No’ several times. She finally gave in and they were together ever since. They were married in 1967 and celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage prior to Bobby’s passing in 2016.

Marlene and Bob lived in Janesville where they started their family. They later moved to Westby on the Buros home farm. Moving to Westby in 1986, Marlene worked at TamCo and later went to Southwest Tech for her registered nurse degree. She worked at Rolling Hills in Sparta as an RN for 25 years. She was termed “one heck of a nurse” and even held her own in-service to teach “the proper way to put a liner in a trash can” because it should be perfect when caring for her patients. She retired in 2016 and then cared for Bob during his cancer battle.

“Hardest working woman I’ve ever met” was a common phrase when her name was brought up. From farm work to being a grandma to making sure her lawn and flower beds were always in tip top shape to Facebook scrolling in later years.

Survivors include her children, Randi Buros of Arizona; Shane (Sara) Buros of Minnesota, Ron Buros of Viroqua, and Lisa (Mitchell) Larson; her grandchildren, Jarret (Amber) Buros of Arizona, Shayla (Jay) Leutink of MN, Ryan (Brenna) Buros of Eau Claire, Maddi (Nick) Buros, Baylee Buros, Kyler (Elsa) Buros, Gage Pulham, Cassidy (Cody) Buros, Ariyahna Trott, Sophie Buros, and Cade Buros; her sisters, Gloria (Garland) Kolbo, Diane Wang, Krissy Hanson, and special coffee sister, Karen Hanson; her brother, Michael (Rosa) Hanson; sisters-in-law, Iris Hanson, Alene Hanson, and Ellen Hanson; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Rosie and Curtis Volden and Ona Hanson; her infant son, Conrad Lee; and her brothers, Doug Hanson, Roger Hanson, Grant Hanson and Rollie Hanson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor Alyssa Weaver will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Marlene will be laid to rest at Coon Prairie Cemetery. A luncheon at the church will follow the burial.
