Martin C. "Smiley" Fortun

Martin C. "Smiley" Fortun, age 84, of Viola, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Vernon Manor in Viroqua as the result of a stroke, a broken back from a fall, and various other ailments. 

A Funeral Service for Smiley will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Viola United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, from 4 to 7:00 p.m. at the Viola United Methodist Church. Additional visitation will be held Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service and will be at the Viola Community Center. Smiley will be laid to rest at a later date at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. 

In memory of Smiley, donations are appreciated for an upcoming kidney surgery for his great-granddaughter, Macs Strothman. Donations may be made to her savings account at the La Farge State Bank. She is surviving on only 1/3 of her left kidney.
