Marval Peterson

Marval Peterson, 76, of Viroqua died Saturday, April 16, 2011. Marval Lorraine (Klecker) Peterson, age 76 of Viroqua, died on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Vernon Manor Retirement Home after an extended illness. She was born on March 13, 1935 to Harry and Alice (Ingle) Klecker of Elmwood, Wis. She graduated from Spring Valley, Wisconsin High School in 1953 and continued her education at Stout Institute, graduating in 1958, with a major in Home Economics Education. Upon her graduation Marval taught High School Economics in the Viroqua School system for seven years. She then went to Monroe, Wis. where she served as a University Extension Home Economics Agent for Green County. In June of 1967 Marval married Edward Peterson of Viroqua, Wis. Marval helped Ed in his electrical contracting business as bookkeeper and storekeeper. She also kept busy with homemaking, various volunteer organizations and women's organization in her church. Ed and marvel did not have any natural children, but served as a foster home for emotionally disturbed young ladies for 17 years, working with the Vernon County Department of Social Services, and the local mental health agency. Marval received the State Future American Homemaker Honorary Member Award, was a board member of the Vernon County Agricultural Society, superintendent of different divisions of the home economics exhibits at the Vernon County Fair. She was a member of the Vernon County Mental Health Association and served as chairperson for many charitable fund drives in the city of Viroqua. In her later years, Marval served as director of the Living Faith Church area food pantry, a position she held for seven years until her retirement in 2008 due to health reasons. She is survived by by her husband, Ed; three sisters: Lavonna Wiff, of Florida, Beverly (Ronald) Lynne of Rochester, Minn., and Judy (Robert) Steiner of Hudson, Wis.; numerous nieces; nephews; and friends. She was preceded in death by her parent, Harry and Alice Klecker; brother-in-law, John Wiff. Blessed be our memory of Marval Lorraine Peterson. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Living Faith Church, 852 North Main Street, Viroqua, Wis. Pastor Fred Sindorf will officiate. A visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of service at 1:00 p.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
