Marvin "Papa Bear" Dittmar

July 8, 1956 — October 12, 2022

Marvin Dittmar AKA Papa Bear, age 66, of Readstown, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at his home. He was born July 8, 1956, to the late Robert and Rita Mae (Weisler) Dittmar in Dubuque, Iowa where he lived with his mother and stepfather, Louis Werner. Marvin graduated from high school with his GED in Cedar Rapids. Marvin and Becki Hotz met at Kennedy High School and were courting from 1973, until they married in 1980. They raised their family in Cedar Rapids until moving to Readstown in 2011.

Marvin had a great passion for fishing and camping, especially with his family. He enjoyed seeing antique car, listening to music from ZZ Top, Prince, and CCR, playing solitaire, and watching western movies with John Wayne in them. Marvin was a huge fam of M*A*S*H*, Gilligan’s Island, and the original Star Trek movies. Marvin would sit outside and just enjoy nature, watching animals which he had a great passion. He also liked going out hunting with family and friends, that brought him such joy. Marvin will be remembered for being a comedian, always making people laugh and making light of bad situations. His family will always cherish the memories with him since his family meant everything.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Becki; his children: Marty (Tiffany) Ohlhauser, Tina Dittmar, and Rodney (Brooke) Dittmar; grandchildren: Max, Lisa, Tiffany, Jenny, Laura, Noah, Kaylynnya, Carly, Dakota, Aden, Teigan, Erika, Bella, David, Abel, and Abigail; 13 great-grandchildren; his sister, Beverly Dittmar-Stripling; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, his infant son Rodney, and his siblings: an infant brother David, Richie, and Robert Jr.
