Mary "Joanie" Meyer

July 12, 1939 — April 8, 2022

Viroqua - God carried Mary Joan Meyer into his arms in Heaven on Friday, April 8th, 2022. Joanie was born to William and Marie (Walter) Becwar on July 12th, 1939. Married to Leon E. Meyer in 1959, they had 14 children and spent 63 years together. They had many adventures raising their many children and running a family farm in Westby, Wisconsin. Joanie enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her many children and grandchildren. She was very devoted to Jesus her entire life. She will be raised to heaven with God on Easter Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua where she was devoted to serving God by attending Mass and leading the rosary. Her strong faith carried her through a lot of trials in her life, including losing 5 children. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, and was a life-long learner. She was a great listener and carried everyone’s troubles for them to lift their burden. She would never admit when she was suffering as she was always offering it up to God. Joanie had the best sense of humor and was full of spunk. We always wondered why she owned furniture, as we never witnessed her sitting for more than a few seconds before she would pop back up to help someone. She always wanted to give whatever she could of herself to help others. Joanie had a relentless spirit and an unparalleled work ethic. She stood by her convictions. She had so much love in her heart for everyone. She is survived by her husband, Leon E. Meyer of Viroqua, WI; her children: Steven (Linda Kay) Meyer of Westby, WI, Sandra (Neil) Barr of Temple, TX, Sheila (Joe) Purcell of Oregon, WI, Scotte (Linda Ann) Meyer of Viroqua, WI, Shawn Meyer of Wisconsin Dells, Stacie (Chris) Thompson of Waxhaw, NC, Shayne (Arlene Knight) Meyer of Westby, WI, Shamus (April) Meyer of Daphne, AL, and Shanon Meyer of De Soto, WI; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Leonard (Jane) Becwar of Tucson, AZ, and Greg (Faye) Becwar of NM. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Veronica Shulka and Mary Pitzer; brothers, Bernard Becwar, Lawrence Becwar, and Ambrose Becwar; daughter, Storey Meyer; son, Kevin Meyer; three other babies and daughter-in-law, Kim Meyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua. Fr. Matt Marshall will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Mass. Burial will follow at the Viroqua Cemetery. The funeral service will be recorded on the Vosseteig Funeral Home Facebook page. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com. Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home & Crematory in Viroqua is serving Joanie's family. 123 W. Decker St. Viroqua, WI 54665 608-637-2100
