Mary L. Strangstalien

Mary L. (Wemette) Strangstalien, 89, of Westby, passed away at Vernon Memorial Hospital with her sons, Scott and Brian, by her side, on Friday, October 23, 2020. Mary was born July 18, 1931, to the late Oscar and Gusteva Wemette. She married Arnold Strangstalien on July 3, 1952. They farmed their entire life until they retired and moved to Westby in 1992. Besides farming, Mary was an accomplished rosemaller and painted many pieces for numerous family and friends. She did beautiful work! Survivors include her sons: Michael of Tucson, Ariz., Scott (Karla) of La Crosse and Brian (Susan) of Westby; her daughter-in-law Debbie Strangstalien of Coon Valley; eight grandchildren: Doug (Becky) Goble, Kristen (Jon) Rickert, Joel (Randi) Strangstalien, Erik (Bridget) Strangstalien, Evan (Sara) Strangstalien, Troy Strangstalien, Cody (Kelly) Strangstalien and Jay (Brook) Strangstalien; 17 great-grandchildren: Evan and Brennen Goble, Mallory and Presley Strangstalien, Cal and Emery Strangstalien, Lilly Rickert, Nicholas Fellegy, Lyla and Arthur Strangstalien, Addy, Ty and Wyatt Strangstalien, Haley and Riley Strangstalien, Caden and Grace Strangstalien; her brother, Bob (Bev) Wemette and her sister, Pat (Bruce) Daniels. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; her son, Douglas; her sisters: Lorraine and Norma; her brothers: Lawrence, Billy, Harry, Frances and Tom. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 27, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Vang Lutheran Church in rural Westby. In an effort to keep everyone safe, social distancing will be followed and masks are required. A graveside service will follow at Vang Cemetery. Pastor Deb Jarvis will officiate.
