Mary Lou Schlegel

Mary Lou Schlegel,75, of Westby, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016. Mary Lou Schlegel (Spangenberg) was born on November 17, 1940 to the very happy parents of Lawrence Spangenberg and Olivia Lundgren in Wolford Township, MN. Brothers and sisters Bud, Luella, Evelyn, and Bonnie completed the family. The family moved to Beloit and Mary Lou graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. Shortly thereafter she met the only man she would ever love, Donald Eugene Schlegel. They bore four children: Leona, Donald, Fred, and Mary. After being blessed with a large family, Donald, at age 36 and after serving our country, suddenly passed. She worked as a nurses aid pouring her heart out to those in need. Mary Lou, in align with her strong Christian values, raised her four children according to His word and was never to marry again. These children bore her eight grandchildren: Treasa, Yolanda, Juan Jr., Amanda, Donald, Joshua, Christopher, and Jessica. The family continues to grow with Ana Rose, James III, Angelica, Gabriela, Keegan, Khyla, Malachi, Esperanza, Anthony, Mariah, Alexis, McKenzie, Daniel, Lily, and Joshua Jr. Mary Lou loved life and loved her family. She loved the variety nutritional sustenance offered. To name a few: fish fries, chicken wings, green peppers, and bean soup. Throughout Mary Lou's life, she enjoyed many, many activities: following stock car races at the Rockford Speedway, cards, crochet, her country music (Especially Hank Sr.), crossword puzzles, and following the spiritual teachings of Joel Osteen. As a child of God Mary Lou was heaven sent ; heavens gates were awaiting her on August 2 2016 @ 5 p.m . Private family services were held.
