Mary Ellen McNamara, 95, died Friday, February 6, 2015. Mary Ellen McNamara, age 95 of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Ferryville, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 surrounded by her family at Prairie Maison Nursing Home. She was born on July 31, 1919 to Albert and Mary Jane (Dagnon) Scoville at St. Anns Hospital in La Crosse, Wi. She attended grade school in Ferryville and at St. Gabriels Grade School in Prairie du Chien. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School with the class of 1937. Mary also attended nurses training at St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse. On September 17, 1942 she married Joseph McNamara in Rising Sun, Wisconsin. Mary worked for the La Crosse Garment Company and Northern Engraving in Lansing Iowa. She belonged to Sacred Heart Parish and Sacred Heart Altar Society. Presently she was a member of St. Gabriels in Prairie du Chien. Mary also belonged to the Never Grow Old Club in Ferryville. She enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and loved to play cards with family and friends. Mary is survived by four daughters: Joan (Charles) Kohlhaas, Patsy (Don) McGuire, Rita (John) Crowley, and Mary Ann Mellem; 11 grandchildren: Robby (Amy) Anderson, Marcus (Jodi) Anderson, Michael McGuire, Kathleen (Troy) Krachey, Shane (Misty) Crowley, Michele (Joe) McCabe, Lucas (Shannon) Mellem, Jamie (Natalie) Mellem, Molly Mellem, Maggie (Jon) Mellem, and Cassandra Mellem; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Frank (Beverly) McNamara; sister-in-law, Marie McNamara; several nieces, nephews and many cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Lauri Anderson; son-in-law, Robert L. Anderson; eight brothers and two sisters. Blessed be our memory of Mary Ellen McNamara. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gabriels Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Fr. James Weighner will celebrate the Mass with burial in the St. James Catholic Cemetery at Rising Sun. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to St. Gabriels Catholic Church or school.
