Mary Sutton

Mary N. Sutton, age 71, of Westby, went to her heavenly rest on Monday, August 26, 2013. She was born on August 25, 1942. As a young lady Mary enjoyed horseback riding at the Neprud family farm. Mary enjoyed teaching Kindergarten through the third grade. After her boys were old enough she spent many years as a substitute teacher in La Crosse and Westby. Mary loved to read and spent many hours with books circulated from Bekkum Memorial Library with one of her many dogs at her side. She also spent several terms on the board for Bekkum and on the church council at Westby Coon Prarie. For many years she was an active member of the Ridge and Valley Branch of Lutheran Brotherhood. Both she and John were instrumental in the beginnings of the Thrune Nature Center and Norskedalen. She also participated in the efforts of the Norse Fund at the Westby High School. She served as a member of the Westby Norse Fund in its early stages, and also was on the VMH Foundation. Mary is survived by her husband, John F. Sutton; two sons: David J. and his wife Bonnie A. Sutton (Jaecks), and Joel L. and his wife Wendy L. Sutton (Whitmer); and five grandchildren: Jean-Luc, Elizabeth, Alexander, Blake, and Owen. Mary was preceded in death by her father Judge Lincoln Neprud, and her mother Laura Neprud (Anderson). Services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Westby Coon Prairie Church at 1 p.m. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 12 p.m. til the time of the service at 1. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial contributions may be made to the Bekkum Memorial Library. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
