Matilda Fortun, age 77 of Viroqua, died Thursday, April 17, 2014. Matilda Fortun, April 18, 1936 April 17, 2014 It is with a deep sense of sadness that the family of Matilda Fortun announces her passing away. "Tilda" as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was born in Vernon County, the daughter of Hilmer and Linda (Holan) Hooverson. a young woman in 1956, she married Richard Johnson. They had four children before he passed away in 1964. Tilda later married William Fortun and they had one son. Tilda will always be remembered for her love of children. She had a daycare in her home for over 40 years and cared for over 100 children. She had a special place in her heart for each and every child placed in her care. Tilda will be lovingly remembered by her children, Catherine Altmann, Roxanne (Jim) Christenson, Randy (Sharon) Johnson and Sharon (Rick) Olson; grandchildren, Brandon "BJ" Olson, Branigan (Chase) Sanwick, Barry (Briton) Christenson, Steve (Katie) Christenson, Alex Christenson, Siri Johnson, Kari Johnson, Kia Johnson, Tatum Fortun, Avyanna Fortun and William Fortun; great-grandchildren, Knox Christenson, Carter Christenson and Baby Sanwick; siblings, Selmer "Sam" (Barb) Hooverson and Myrtle Yanske; sisters-in-law, Goldie Hooverson and Shirley Hooverson; brother-in-law, Calvin Thompson; Tilda will also be deeply missed by her very special friend and caregiver, Keith Hase. In addition to her parents, 13 siblings and son-in-law Gert Altmann, Tildy was further preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Johnson and William Fortun; and one son, Cory Fortum. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Vosseteig Larson Funeral Home, 123 West Decker Street, Viroqua. with Pastor Kathy Ingbritsen will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm till the time of service on Saturday at the Funeral Home. The Vosseteig - Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
