Mavis A. Creager, 76, of La Crosse, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Mavis Aileen Primmer Steiner Creager was born July 8, 1935 in Viroqua, Wisconsin. Her parents were Glenn & Iza (De Garmo) Primmer. They moved to the state of Washington when she was only two years old and lived there until the end of World War II. They returned to Wisconsin and lived on various farms until her parents bought the farm on Upper Knapps Creek near Soldiers Grove. She married Orville Steiner; later they were divorced. She went to Vernon County Teachers College at Viroqua and got her first teaching job in Footeville, near Janesville, Wisconsin. She received her degree in elementary education from Whitewater State University where she worked on her Masters in Special Education. She married Richard Clarence Creager on June 26, 1976. They moved to Japan in 1979. They stayed there until 1994 when they bought a house in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Survivors include sisters Glenda Port of Richland Center, Wisconsin and Carol (Floyd) Hacker of Sparta, Wisconsin and brothers James (Karen) Primmer of Denver, Colorado and David (Meme) Primmer of Cornelius, Oregon. Mavis was a lifelong teacher, especially skilled in painting and sewing. In Lieu of flowers or plants, memorials would be appreciated to Bethany Riverside Nursing Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker, (hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may call on Saturday from 12 Noon until the time of the service at 1. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
