Max John McCullick passed away on September 12, 2025, at the Unity Point – Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. Max was born on December 18, 1957 in Prairie du Chien, WI to Max and Beatrice (Martin) McCullick. He was the seventh child of ten children.
Max grew up in Seneca, WI; he graduated from Seneca High School in 1976. He then completed one year of college at UW-Platteville. Eventually he moved to Boscobel, WI and made Boscobel his home. In June 1984, he married Barb Roghers. Even though they divorced in April 1987, they remained friends. Max always referred to Barb as the love of his life.
Over the years, Max worked at various factories in the area: Advance Transformer, Cardinal Glass, and Prairie Industries. He also worked as a salesman for Mediacom. His favorite endeavor was owning and operating The Jungle, a small pet store he had in his apartment. That was his dream job.
You wouldn’t know that Max had more of a reclusive personality, because he was so easy to talk to; he had a kind soul, and was not judgmental. He made friends easily, many of them became lifetime friends, yet he preferred smaller crowds even when it came to family.
Max had a soul for nature; he loved plants, animals, astrology, anything outdoors. He had a green thumb for growing plants like no other; he could answer any questions about how to grow or care for a particular plant. He has always had fish, birds, hamsters, and dogs in his home; he even had a small alligator for a while. Nature was where he was truly comfortable, it gave him peace.
Max loved to debate politics/religion on social media. He knew his history well and he knew the bible better than most preachers, so he always had strong facts to support his views. But, he still recognized that not everyone thought like he did and he respected others opinions.
He is survived by his companion of 40+ years, Joker (his African Grey parrot); his dog, Izzy; two sisters, Jacqueline Suelflow and Yolanda (David) Nelson both from Prairie du Chien, WI; five brothers, Glenn McCullick and Charles (Marcia) McCullick both from Prairie du Chien, Michael (Donna) McCullick and Joseph McCullick both from Seneca, WI, and Stephen (Lori) McCullick from DeSoto, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Max was preceded in death by both of his parents; his brothers John McCullick and Dennis McCullick; his nephews Scott Whiteaker, Zachary McCullick, Shane McCullick and Randy McCullick; and a niece Jessica McArthur.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Max at the Seneca Community Building on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
