Merlin Jerone Kvigne

September 6, 1930 — April 1, 2023

Merlin Jerone Kvigne of rural Ferryville, WI passed away on April 1, 2023 at Vernon Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Julius and Mabel (Rosenwater) Kvigne on September 6, 1930 at their home in Mt. Sterling, WI. He was baptized, confirmed, and on July 11,1952, married Francille (Williams) Kvigne at the Utica Lutheran Church, rural Ferryville, WI. They have been blessed with 71 years of marriage together.


He graduated from the Gays Mills High School in 1948. Although he grew up on a farm, he worked off the farm through the years as a cheese maker and petroleum delivery driver for Cenex and Farm Services in Crawford County. After retirement, he worked for the ADRC/Crawford County part time for 22 years as a van driver taking people to meal sites and doctor appointments. He served on various boards and for 19 years he was a director on the board for Crawford Electric and Scenic Rivers.


Merlin and Francille were very proud of their Century Farm on Boma Ridge and had a celebration at the farm with family and friends.


Merlin is survived by his wife Francille; daughters, Marlys (Ike) Oldenburg, Lakeville, MN, Marcy (Warren) Haugen, Viroqua, WI, son Mark Kvigne, Ferryville, WI; grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Oldenburg, Lakeville, MN, Kari (Jim) Polena, Concord, OH, Kelly (Derek) Ulstad, River Falls, WI, Jenna (Casey) Haugen, La Crosse, WI, and Connor Haugen, River Falls, WI; great-grandchildren, Juliana and Harper Oldenburg, Mason Polena, Bjorn and Soren Ulstad, brothers Stephen (Marilyn) Kvigne, Ferryville, WI, and William "Bill" Kvigne Viroqua, WI; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


His immediate family members who have passed on to eternal life are his daughter, Mary Jo Ann Kvigne; parents Julius and Mabel Kvigne; father and mother-in-law, Art and Lil Williams; Dave and Irene Williams and their daughter Evelyn Aspenson; brother and sister-in-law Tilman(Jr.) and Lenore Brudos; sister-in-law Shirley Kvigne; and many other relatives and friends.


His Christian faith was very important and gave him strength throughout his life.


So Loved

Those we love don’t go away,

They walk beside us every day.

Unseen, unheard but always near,

So loved, so missed, so very dear.

A Celebration of Merlin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Merlin will be laid to rest at the Utica Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service. A luncheon will be provided at the church.
