Michael "Mike" Culek

Michael “Mike” J. Culek, age 78, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9th, 2025. He was born in Bensenville, Illinois on February 28th, 1947, to the late William and Corinne (Walsh) Culek. Mike graduated from Fenton High School with the class of 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and proudly served his country. He married Kathryn Neva on April 20th, 1968, and they later divorced. Mike worked as a mail carrier for a short time before transitioning careers and becoming an over-the-road truck driver. He married the love of his life, Linda Martin, on March 28th, 1981. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage. He retired from trucking in 2000 and then worked at Nuzum’s Lumber in Viroqua. Mike’s hobby was riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and he loved being in his garage rebuilding cars and bikes.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Culek; his two daughters, Beth Culek and Cate Beech; his grandchildren, Maya Rizwan, Ava Rizwan and Tom Beech; his great-granddaughter, Stella Beech; his siblings, William Culek and Rosemary Kessel; several nieces and nephews; his beloved cat, Oscar; other relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Josephine Culek; and brother-in-law, Herb Kessel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua are appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 16th, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua. Fr. Joe Richards will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 7 PM on Thursday, May 15, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Additional visitation will be held Friday at the church from 10 AM until the time of the Mass. Mike will be laid to rest with full military honors at St. James Cemetery, Rising Sun, following the Mass. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
