Mildred C. Hanson

Mildred C. Hanson, 99 of Viroqua died Monday, November 28, 2011. Mildred Cora Hanson, 99, of Viroqua died Monday, November 28, 2011 at Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua. She was born in the town of Liberty, Vernon County on October 10, 1912 to Ward and Mabel E. (Erickson) White. She grew up near Viroqua and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1930. She also graduated from the Vernon County Normal School in 1931. Mildred worked in Minneapolis and attended the Minnesota Bible College during the early thirties. Later she worked in Janesville and Delavan, WI during WWII. Following the war she returned to Viroqua and worked for J.C. Penny for 23 years. Mildred married Albert E. Hanson on July 8, 1962. Albert passed away in March of 1972. After retirement, Mildred did volunteer work in the gift shop at Vernon Memorial Hospital and at the Vernon Manor Nursing Home. Mildred was a member of the Viroqua Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years and served with Ladies Missionary Group. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and the VFW Auxiliary. Mildred loved to travel, fishing, reading, gardening, and making others happy. Mildred is survived by nieces: Jean (Mike) Anderson of East Lansing, Michigan, Diana (Al) Greene of De Forest, WI, Sue (Lyle) Wallace of Hillsboro, WI, and Launa White of Pevely, Missouri; two nephews: Dan (Paula) White of Viola, WI, and Barry White of Pevely, Missouri. Also stepchildren: Cathy (James) Senty of La Crosse, WI, Edith Jensen of Rochester, MN, and Roy Hanson of Littleton, Colorado and their families; her special friends: Jane Purdue, Larry Mosher and Dick Tubb. Mildred cherished all her relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; two brothers: Mervin and Ernest White; and nephew, Kevin White. She will be sadly missed. Blessed be our memory of Mildred. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 20ll at Viroqua Church of Christ. Pastor Jeff Coon will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker Street, (Hwy 56) in Viroqua and at the church on Thursday from l0:00 until time of service.
