Myrtle Sandy

July 29, 1920 — September 15, 2012

Myrtle Olivia Sandy, age 92 of Viroqua passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Bethel Home on Saturday, September 15, 2012. She was born on July 29, 1920 to Arthur and Lena (Grimsled) Hatlan, the oldest of 10 children. She married the love of her life, Norris Sandy, on October 12, 1940. During their life together they farmed, raising cattle, pigs and lots of tobacco. Myrtle also worked as a CNA until her retirement. Norris and Myrtle shared 67 wonderful years together and celebrated their 67th anniversary on October 12, 2007. Norris passed away on October 24, 2007. Myrtle resided at Ferryville until becoming a resident at Bethel Home in October of 2009. She enjoyed playing cards, listening to old time music, visiting on the telephone, and of course her favorite past-time, Bingo. Her greatest joy was her visits from her family and friends as they were a very important part of her life. Myrtle is survived by her children: Norma Brockway (Lonnie Mikkelson), Maynard (Cheri) Sandy of Ferryville, Nancy Lonnie) McDowell of DeSoto; grandchildren: Ronald, Richard, Robert and Russell Brockway, Dana Elliot, Debbie Shepard and Dawn Honkin; great-grandchildren: Rachel, Ronnie, Josie, Wade, Andrew, Brianna and Danielle Brockway, Kassidy Pollellinger,Justin, Brandon and Tyler Shepard, Cody and Courtney Sandy, Skylar Honkin and Joseph Elliot; great-great granddaughter, Chloe Shepard; her best companion, her dog, Pal; sisters: Laura Sandy of Viroqua, Grace Henderson of Onalaska, Helen (Paul) Reed of Ft. Atkinson and Anna (Bob) Kemp of Boaz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norris; an infant daughter; brothers: Archie, Joe, Bernie, Jerome and Glen; and son-in-law, Harold 'Duffy' Brockway, Jr. Blessed be our memory of Myrtle Olivia Sandy. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker. The Rev. Dr. Steven Fossum will officiate with burial in the West Prairie Hauge Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday after 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
