Naomi O. Mcdaniel

d. July 29, 2013

Naomi McDaniel, 90, of Maplewood Terrace, Viroqua (formerly of Soldiers Grove) died on July 29, 2013 at Vernon Memorial Hospital surrounded by her three children and her son-in-law. Naomi drew her first breath on September 21, 1922. She was the first daughter born to Ole and Nora (Jackson) Braaten. She spent her childhood on the Braaten Farm in Readstown and graduated from Readstown High School. She met and married George McDaniel in 1942. Together they had three children all of whom survive her. Sharon (John) Grim live in rural Viola, Linda (late Larry) Everson of Viroqua and Richard McDaniel of Utah all remember their mom as a hardworking and loving mom who would sacrifice anything to provide well for her family. One of the greatest pleasures in life for Naomi was her family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud. Spending time at holidays, making Norwegian desserts, putting together puzzles, playing cards (quite competitively), playing the piano or simply playing a game of her famous "You Who" would rank in the top of how Naomi loved to spend her free time. Left to remember those wonderful times are her grandchildren Tammy (Luke) Zitzner with their children Madysen, Saige and Braylan, Troy (Pedro) Everson, Tim (Cheryl) Everson with their children Hannah and Kyle, Jodi Grim, Brad (Cindy) Grim with their children Hillary and Jesse. Further mourning her passing are her sisters Phyllis Jacobson, Beverly Fredrick and Deanna (Merrill) Gardner along with many nieces and nephews. Her in-laws Myrtle Braaten, Nellie Braaten, Gerald McDaniel and Betty Lou Huth also survive her. Standing beside Jesus, those that welcomed Naomi into her eternal happiness were her parents, her husband George, her son-in-law Larry Everson, her brothers: Kermit, Obed, Norman and Myron; and her sister Rebecca Erickson and her niece Deborah Jacobson. It was the simple things in life that brought Naomi the most pleasure. Helping her to enjoy those simple things and giving her special and loving care, for which the Naomis family is forever grateful were Ann Sherry and Gail Anich, the VMH providers and nursing staff, the Maplewood Terrace and Vernon Manor Staff. Services celebrating Naomis life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11 AM. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St (hwy 56), in Viroqua. Serving as pallbearers will be Naomis grandchildren Brad and Jodi Grim, Tim and Troy Everson, Tammy and Luke Zitzner. Honorary Pallbearers are her honorary grandchildren John and Jay Fanta, her God-children David Fredrick and Gary Jacobson, her friends Dave Woodworth, Wanda Aird and Tony Everson. Naomis memory will live on positively with anyone who encountered this wonderful woman. May she forever enjoy her well-earned rest. Memorials may be given to the Vernon Memorial Hospice House or to the charity of the donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
