Neoma E. Hill, 88, of De Soto died Sunday, February 17, 2013 Neoma E Hill, 88, of De Soto died Sunday February 17, 2013 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. Neoma was born June 5, 1924 to John and Anna (Bolstad) Devenport. She graduated from Eastern Allamakee High School, Lansing, Iowa in 1942 and she married Harold Hill on June 22, 1946. Together they owned a car dealership in Prairie du Chien until they moved to Ferryville. They then owned the Sportsmans Bar. They had two children before Harold passed away in 1951. Neoma then went on to own Neomas Bar and Grill also in Ferryville for a number of years. She eventually built Neomas Motel next door to the bar. Both of which she later sold. Neoma became Postmaster in Ferryville in 1975. She spent many years working at the Post Office before retiring in 1991. Neoma then went on to own Neomas Bar in De Soto until 1996 when she finally retired completely. Neoma was a strong willed, independent woman that raised her two children and ran a number of businesses on her own. Neoma loved to cook and bake for her friends and family. Her love of card playing was well known to all. She looked forward to playing euchre weekly at Porks Bar in De Soto right up until her time of death. Neoma is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Kaye) Dunkelberger of De Soto; her grandchildren: Shelly Gilman of Stoddard, Tina Hill of Rhinelander, WI, Kimberly Gilman (Ryan) Ray of La Crosse, Troy (Steph) Hill of Lansing, Melissa Hill Nagel of Prairie du Chien, and Lori Gilman Lachman (Ryan McCarty) of Ferryville. Her great-grandchildren: Thomas, Chanda, Sadie, Jayden, John, Cody, Macie, Whalen, and Wyatt. Her sister, Maxine Chellevold of Joplin, MO. Her extended family: Rob (Brenda) Dunkelberger, Denise (Jon) Gronwald, Jeremy (Jessi) Nagel, Laurie (Mike) Cauffman and their children, Brenda and Jerry Nagel, Brian Dunkelberger, Ashley Kromke, Marissa, Nolan, and Tori Ray, and Kylie Horton; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and other family. Neoma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hill; her son, Tom Hill; her son-in- law, Robert Dunkelberger; her parents; an infant brother, Willard John; her brother, Charlie (Hummey) Devenport; and her sisters: Mable Anundson and Helen Bird. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 320 Main Street, in De Soto. Pastor Doug Andersen will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and also on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials are preferred The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of De Soto is serving the family.
