Nicholas Hinkley Smythe, 37, of De Soto, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Nicholas was born on December 24, 1987, in La Crosse, WI, to Rebecca Lynn Hinkley and William Gerald Smythe.
From a young age, Nicholas was described by his mother as untamed, uninhibited, active, and energetic — bright, aware, and independent, with no fear. He was a real go-getter who loved working and helping others. He had a natural understanding of how things worked and could figure out how to fix or build almost anything without instruction.
Nicholas enjoyed farming, gardening, cutting wood, and working on mechanics. He had a knack for making what he needed to work — work.
He is survived by his beloved dog, Hunny; his life partner, Jessica; his sister, Misha; his maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rebecca Hinkley and William Smythe; his brother, Ross Smythe; and his paternal grandparents.
A casual memorial gathering will be held from 12–4 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Retreat Sportsman’s Club on County N in Retreat, WI. Lunch will be provided. Online Condolences may be expressed at www.vossfh.com.
