Nina Orbeck Wee was born in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, on September 4, 1913, to John and Ida (Asperheim) Wee. She died at Bethany Riverside on March 25, 2014. She grew up in Viola, Wisconsin, and graduated from high school with the class of 1931. She then attended the State College (now University) in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and graduated. She then began her long career in teaching beginning in country schools. She taught all eight grades in the Rock School near Sylvan. Then she taught in Ithaca and Lodi, Wisconsin. She then went to California and taught in the primary grades for many years. There she was also active in her Lutheran Church and also a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse. When she retired from teaching she continued to work some years in a tutoring program for children. She came back to Wisconsin where she would be near family, and lived in an apartment at Salazar Square in La Crosse, moving from there to assisted living in Bethany on Cass. She was very interested in her Norwegian heritage. Her father had come from Norway at the turn of the century. She enjoyed making and eating Norwegian foods. A highlight of her life was her trip to Norway to see her fathers childhood home. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Marie Bowell, and Rebecca Hoffman; nieces, Betty Lou Janczy, and Sandra Bowell, and her dear friend, Blanche Knutson. She is survived by her niece, Nancy Bowell; her nephews: Gary Bowell, Randy Bowell (Mary Catherine), and John Hoffman (Kay); many great nieces and nephews; members of the Ofstun family; and special friend, Marcia Drum. The family would like to express appreciation for the wonderful care and friendship she received at Bethany on Cass and Bethany Riverside, and also to Dr. Ron Chaney for the care and humor shown. Memorial service will be at 12 Noon on Sunday, March 30th at the Bethany Riverside Lutheran Homes, Faith and Life Center (2575 South 7th Street in La Crosse). Pastor Kimberly Jordan will officiate. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center of Viola is assisting the family.
