Nora Sherry Olson, 94, of Viroqua and formerly of Soldiers Grove, died Sunday, December 3, 2017. Nora L. Sherry Olson, 94, passed away at the Bethel Home in Viroqua on December 3, 2017, just short of her 95th birthday. She was born on December 8, 1922, to Martin and Elsie (Helgerson) Iverson on the home farm in rural Gays Mills. She was baptized and confirmed at the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church where she was a member most of her life. One of the accomplishments that she was most proud of was being selected Alice in Dairyland and was on the front page of the Successful Farming magazine. She married Luther Sherry and to this union were born Sandra (Sherry) Anderson and A. Dean Sherry. Luther and Nora farmed together on Noras home farm until Luthers untimely death. She attended Vernon County Normal School and taught in Folsum and Pine Knob Schools. She later married Alvin Olson and to this union were born Timothy Olson and Anna (Olson) Quamme. Alvin and Nora farmed on the Olson home farm and she was bookkeeper for Star Valley Creamery for many years. In August 2014, she moved to Maplewood Terrace Assisted Living in Viroqua. This past August, due to declining health she moved to Bethel Home in Viroqua. Nora thoroughly enjoyed spending time with people especially her children and grandchildren. Nora always looked forward to spending birthday weekends together with her sisters. Farm work and gardening were a part of her life she enjoyed which was apparent to those who came to visit. She had a very strong Christian faith, which she instilled in her family. At Maplewood, she made many new friends, enjoyed playing cards and attended bible study. She is survived by her children Sandra (Larry) Anderson, Ferryville, A. Dean (Cindy) Sherry, Dallas, TX, Tim (Sue) Olson, Sun Prairie, and Ann (Dave) Quamme, Holmen; grandchildren Steve Sherry, Pewaukee, Danielle Seals, Brentwood, TN, Sarah (Chris) Sherry Johnson, Plano, TX, Jim (Marjorie) Anderson, Bangor, Joel (Kathryn) Anderson, Ferryville, Andrea (Eric) Anderson, Viroqua, Emily Olson, Sun Prairie, Justin Olson, Middleton, Amy (Jared) McCutchen, Trempealeau, Elise (Jake) Simmens, Shakopee, MN, Mark Quamme, Eau Claire, and Nick Quamme, Eau Claire; and great grandchildren Trygve, Thor, Siri, Rachel, Claire, Jared, Jessica, Madelyn, Cale, Mara, Maia, Anna, Megan, Abby, Zachary, Charlee, Harper, Ava, Isaac and baby Simmens due in June; sisters Stella Wee, West Salem and Margaret Halverson, Waukon, IA; sister-in-law Carol Sherry, Soldiers Grove; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, in-laws Alvin and Minnie Sherry, and Tobias and Anna Olson, granddaughter Julie Olson, and sisters and brothers-in-law Gladys (Russell) Molldrem, Alice (Thomas) Olson, Evelyn (John) Hoffland, Gorman Wee, and Harold Halverson; and in-laws Palmer (Anna Marie) Sherry, Marcellus (Louise) Sherry, Frederick Sherry, Lewis (Gladys) Olson, Barbara (Albert) Iverson, and Mabel Olson. The family would like to thank Maplewood Assisted Living and Bethel Home for the wonderful care provided to Nora. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church. Pastors Nile Sandeen and Susan Fox will officiate with burial to follow in the Mt Sterling Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:30am till the time of service at 11am. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Maplewood Activity Department or the Mt Sterling Cemetery Association.
