Olaf A Borge

Olaf A. Borge, 70, of Viroqua, died Saturday, May 23, 2015. Olaf Borge died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the age of 70 at his home outside of Viroqua, Wisconsin. Mr. Borge will be remembered for his enthusiastic pursuit of good food, spirited engagement in political arguments, quiet dedication to family and friends, and genuine love of lutefisk. Olaf Albert Borge was born June 5, 1944, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Betty Cowie Borge and Michael Borge. He was raised in Evanston and in Tinley Park, Illinois and spent significant time in Cambridge, Wisconsin where his grandfather was pastor of East Koshkonong, Rockdale, and Cambridge Lutheran Churches. He attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, eventually graduating with both bachelors and masters degrees in fine art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1968. He spent many years in Chicago and in Sullivan, Illinois, as a working artist and carpenter. His work appears in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. He worked in admissions and taught at the School of the Art Institute; and he worked as a systems administrator at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Upon retirement, he moved to Viroqua in 1999 where he pursued his passions for fly fishing, long range shooting, Norwegian cooking, raising asparagus, and bread baking. Mr. Borge is survived by his sister, Sigrid Borge Brooks of Chicago; his nephew, Michael Brooks (Christine Busby) also of Chicago; and a wide group of friends who shared his varied interests. His previous two marriages ended in divorce. A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Viroqua. Friends are welcome to come with memories, stories, and anecdotes for sharing. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made in the form desired by friends.
