Ole Alan Solverson, 84 of Viroqua, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 13 th , 2014 at the Bethany Riverside Home in La Crosse. Ole was born on July 10th, 1929, in Crawford county to Odell and Clarice (Kelly Christensen) Solverson. He attended Folsom and Lyster rural schools, Soldiers Grove High School and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1947. After Ole graduated high school, he bought one of the last International Harvester Threshing Machines and did custom work in the neighborhood. On August 26th, 1950, he married Carole Worman on the home farm in rural Viroqua in the Folsom area. Pastor Peder Nordsletten officiated at their wedding. During his farming years, Ole and his brother Paul shared a passion for old-fashioned tractor pulls. Many times, the tractors were driven straight from the fields to the tractor pulls. In the 1970s, he was also known as "Poor Boy" on the CB airwaves where every morning he was a part of the area farmers "Coffee Clutch". Here they exchanged ideas and thoughts before the morning milking. After his wife Carole passed away in 1990, Ole retired from farming and started working at the Viroqua Wal-Mart where he worked until his entry into the Bethany Riverside home in 2012. He was a member of Franklin Lutheran church at Folsom. Ole is survived by his son, Dr. Odell Virgil (Carolyn) Solverson of Viroqua, and a daughter, Sandra Sue (Mark) McNeilly of Cary, North Carolina; six grandchildren, David, Ole, Caitlyn, Alex, Logan and Kenzie; 2 great-grandchildren, Maya and Olivia; two brothers, Paul (Nita) Solverson of rural Viroqua and Dr. Luther (Joan) Solverson of Augusta, Georgia; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Solverson of Carbondale, Illinois. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He also leaves behind a special friend, Alice Gunderson of Stoddard and her family. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ole was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle, of Carbondale, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday May 16th, 2014 from 4-6 pm at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua (123 West Decker Street). and will continue from 10 am until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Funeral service will be at 11 am, Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at Franklin Lutheran Church (S8148 County Road J, Rural Folsom) with Pastor Jim Folz officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Lutheran Church Cemetery. Oles family wants to thank the staff of Bethany Riverside Home in La Crosse for their outstanding care and kindness. In lieu of flowers or plants, donations are requested to the Franklin Cemetery Fund or the Franklin Lutheran Church Music Fund. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
