Oliver L. Potts

Oliver Potts, age 82 of Viroqua, died Sunday, December 2, 2007. Oliver "Ollie" Potts, age 82 of Viroqua died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Vernon Memorial Hospital. He was born September 6, 1925 in Crawford County to Loyd and Lula (Robbins) Potts. In 1962 Ollie was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Viroqua, WI. He married Joan Lewison on February 27, 1954 at North Kickapoo Church. Ollie served in the Army where he was a Military Policeman, stationed in the Philippines prior to his discharge. He first farmed near Readstown, and then farmed on Kenneth Hansons farm near Viroqua. He then moved to Milwaukee and worked at a cabinet shop. They moved back to Viroqua and he did carpentry work for Alton Peterson, and then was self-employed as a carpenter. Ollie enjoyed woodworking and farming. Oliver and Joan purchased a farm on Asbury Ridge where he enjoyed farming and loved their beautiful view at the location. Ollie loved dogs and always enjoyed visiting with relatives, friends and neighbors. Oliver and Joan sold their farm in 2004 and moved to Viroqua, and he later became a resident at Vernon Manor. Oliver and Joan celebrated their 50th anniversary with an open house at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 2004. They always raised a beautiful garden and shared their produce and flowers with family and friends. Ollie is survived by his wife Joan and his siblings: Camilla Grimme of Onalaska, Clarence "Andy" (Shirley) Potts of La Crosse, Myrna (Gordon) Bailey of Richland Center, Melvin (Esther) Potts of Winter Haven, FL., Roger (Patricia) Potts of La Crosse, Robert "Bob" (Gail) Potts of Onalaska; sisters-in-law Ruth Potts of Beloit, Catherine "Cathy" (Tim) Ofte of La Crosse, Doris (Verlyn) Ames of DeSoto, Ellen Lewison of Viroqua; brother-in-law, Arnold Lewison and friend Martha Burns; nieces and nephews; special friends and neighbors Richard and Rose Langer and Lawrence Rayner.He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother - Orland, two brothers-in-law Tilmer Lewison, and Reader Grimme; and mother and father-in-law Thomas and Addie Lewison.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 West Decker St. (Hwy 56), Viroqua. Friends may also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
