Orla Mae Simonson

Orla Mae (Jones) Simonson, 98, died on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Soldiers Grove Health Services. Orla was born on January 29, 1924, to Harvey and Eliza (Hill) Jones on their Wisconsin farm in Vernon County, town of Franklin. She grew up on the farm and attended Folsum School and graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1941. On December 7, 1941, at Franklin Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage to Everett Simonson by the Reverend D.T. Borgen. They spent some time on the west coast, while Everett served his country, during WWII. After his discharge they farmed together near Soldiers Grove, WI and then bought a farm near Viola, WI and farmed there until 1967, when he suffered a massive stroke, which left him disabled. The farm was sold and they purchased a home in Viola, Wisconsin. Orla worked for 18 years for Mister G’s Shoes and Clothing; during her husband’s disability. Everett died in 1989. After his death, Orla was carefully cared for by the three children, Thomas, Larry, and Dawn. She loved and enjoyed her seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Orla was a life-long member of Franklin Lutheran Church and an active member of several organizations especially the Viola American Legion Auxiliary Post 447. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; their daughter, Dawn Simonson; Orla’s three brothers, Harlan, Raymond, and Herold; and four sisters, Merle, Cleo, Marian, and June. Orla is survived by her children, Thomas (special friend Judy) and Larry (Sharon); seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Franklin Lutheran Church, S8148 Co. Road J, Soldiers Grove, WI with burial in the church cemetery.
