Otto A Hanson

March 16, 1936 — August 20, 2016

Otto Alfred Hanson Jr., age 80, died Saturday August 20, 2016 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Otto was born in Sterling Twp. in the Purdy area on March 16, 1936 to Otto and Nellie (Winchel) Hanson Sr. He was a graduate of Ontario High School. Otto went on to serve his country by enlisting and serving in the U.S. Air Force. After the armed forces Otto farmed. He spent half his life 20 years, working as an auto mechanic and the next 22 working on the maintenance staff at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, but the whole time he farmed. When he wasnt working he was. He was Mr. Fixit, you name it; stoves, sinks, washers, dryers he could fix anything and loved doing it all the while telling Ole and Lena jokes. He loved auctions but just as much reading about each one in order to decide and announce why he was going to a particular auction, and youd better not bid against him. Otto always loved a good card game and enjoyed going camping as well, like to the badlands or to Yellowstone three times. But His biggest adventures were the afternoon car trips where after breakfast each Sunday Otto would load the whole family and take off to this direction or that. Today Otto is survived by his wife Bernice, his son Vaughn, his daughter Brenda (Anthony) Ayala, three sisters, Betty Bolton, Ona Berge and Bonnie Hanson, and one brother, August Hanson of Ontario. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Wayne, Clint, Christopher, Madeline, Colin and Anika, and Fernando and Carlos and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Suzanne Marie Hanson, one son Steven Douglas Hanson, two sisters Olga Leland and Leona Berg and one brother Orbin Hanson. A Memorial Service for Otto will be Friday August 26, 2016 at 12:30 P.M. at the Vosseteig- Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Jim Aniol will officiate.
