Patrice M. Mockrud, 56, of Middleton and formerly of Viroqua died Thursday, September 27, 2012. She was born in Viroqua, Wis. on May 14, 1956 to Mary & Paul Mockrud. She graduated from U.W. in 1979 with a B.S. in nursing and achieved her M.S. in nursing in 1995. She worked at the Dean Foundation in Middleton doing medical research until her health declined in 2010. She previously enjoyed working at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.; Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital in Milwaukee and at U.W. Hospital in Madison, Wis. Patrice loved to travel and took seven trips to Norway with her mom to visit relatives where she still has second cousins. She enjoyed spending time with her many relatives and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, raising orchids, and many different crafts that included making jewelry and baskets. She had a tremendous love of all animals, especially cats who held a special place in her heart. Friends and family will miss her wonderful sense of humor and sharp wit. She is survived by her mother, Mary Mockrud, of Viroqua; many cousins and friends; and her two cats, Sari and Ayla. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Mockrud. "til vi mtes igjen" (until we meet again). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Hallemeier will officiate with burial in Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be given to animal charities or a charity of your choice. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
