Patricia M. Olson, age 66 of DeSoto, died Monday, April 11, 2011. Patricia M. Olson, 66, of De Soto died on Monday, April 11, 2011. Pat was born July 18, 1944 to Morris and Gladys (Hanson) Vangen. She was baptized and conrmed at Northwest Prairie Lutheran Church. Pat was a graduate of De Soto High School and St. Olaf College. Pat was married to David Olson on July 24, 1971, and they farmed together until her passing. Pat taught Food and Consumer Education for 36 years, spending most of those years at Viroqua High School. Following her retirement, she frequently served as a substitute teacher in the De Soto School District. She has touched the lives of thousands of students providing support and encouragement. Through the years, she was an active member of De Soto Lutheran Church serving as organist, a member of the Faith Circle, and WELCA member. Pat enjoyed gardening and tending her owers. She was a leader in 4-H, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. She loved baking, sewing, and spending time with her friends and family. Pat will be remembered for the wonderful letters she was so gifted in writing to show her appreciation of others time and talents. Pat is survived by her loving husband, David, of nearly 40 years, and their children, Sarah (Ryan) Nelson of Hustisford, WI and John of West Des Moines, IA. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Ariel Nelson and Allison Olson; two sisters, Sharon (Ed) Aune of Columbia Heights, MN; Mary (George) Skogen of Washburn, WI; and one brother, Thore (Stephanie) of Anoka, MN, many nieces and nephews, and other family. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Morris and Gladys Vangen. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Blessed be her memory. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, at De Soto Lutheran Church with Pastor Doug Andersen ofciating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. at De Soto Lutheran Church on Friday, April 15 and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service begins. The family wishes that memorials be directed to the Pat Olson Memorial Scholarship Fund in lieu of owers.
