Pauline G. Maxwell, 98, of rural De Soto, died on Friday, July 8, 2011. Pauline G. Maxwell, 98, of rural De Soto, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, July 8, 2011. She was born September 27, 1912, to the late Roland and Louisa (Hill) Matthes, in rural Viola. She married the late Vivian H. Maxwell in 1932, and they farmed together in rural Viola and De Soto before relocating and retiring to the village of Viola in 1987. In 2005, Pauline moved back to rural De Soto to be near four of her seven children. She loved her mobile home at the farm. As a young mother, Pauline was a Sunday school teacher, she was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her young students as well as her own young children. In her life, Pauline was a member of Red Mound Methodist Church, Viola United Methodist Church, and New Hope United Methodist Church. Pauline helped with church and funeral dinners. Stayed busy with her Viola Church Circle Friends. She loved to travel to Florida to visit two sons with her husband during his lifetime. Thanks to a very special neighbor friend, Linda Lockington for making those trips possible. Later, traveled to Arkansas to visit another son. Thanks to her special friend, Reba Buckles for stopping to see Pauline each day at the Bethel Home. Pauline was an excellent farmer, she was her father and husbands inseparable right arm. She loved farming with all children being involved. She raised a large vegetable garden and process many quarts of canned goods. She was an excellent baker and known for her Apple pies, English Plum Pudding and serving tea upon your arrival. Pauline is survived by her seven children: Frank, (Linda) Maxwell, Greer, SC, Donald (Jeani) Maxwell, Nokomis, Fl, Paul (Karen) Maxwell, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Howard, rural De Soto, Harold (Jo) Maxwell, rural De Soto, Eugene (Dianne) Henderson, NV/DeSoto. Phyllis (Jim) Skarda, rural DeSoto. She also is survived by 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Madge England, Racine; and one sister-in-law, Gloria Maxwell, Boaz, WI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vivian; three sisters: Hildred Lewis, Millicent Jacobson, Merrie June Matthes; two brothers: Hilmer Matthes, Ray Matthes; one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Maxwell; three grandsons: Rick Maxwell, John Maxwell and R.J. Morton; six brother-in-laws: Frank Lewis, Carl England, Fay Jacobson, Roy Dunwald, Myron Rego, Vernon Maxwell; and four sisters-in-law: Dot Matthes, Peggy Matthes, Viva Dunwald and Minnie Rego.. In Lieu of flowers or plants, donations may be made in Paulines memory to New Hope UMC Sunday School, Viola UMC Sunday School and/or VMH Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11 am at Viola United Methodist Church. Pastor Luverne Larson will officiate with burial in Viola Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 11. Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center in Viola is serving the family.
