Phyllis Benson, age 89, passed away on March 11, 2026. Phyllis was born on April 4, 1936, in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, to Lawrence and Olga Everson. She graduated from Soldiers Grove High School and married the love of her life, James Benson.
In the early years of their marriage, Phyllis helped James run Benson’s Grocery Store in Soldiers Grove. She later worked in several secretarial positions and concluded her career as an administrator for the Green Lake County Veterans Association.
After retirement, Phyllis and James enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. They loved golfing, playing cards, and socializing with their many friends. Phyllis will be remembered for her love of family—and of course, shopping. She found great joy in family gatherings and especially in a spirited game of Rook.
She is survived by two sisters, Charlotte Sherry and Lola (Ron) Olson; one brother, Daniel (Ann) Everson; and many nieces and nephews: Brent (Pat) Sherry, Brenda (Doug) Belot, Todd (Lorrie) Olson, Amy (Alan) Atwood, Siri (Matt) Walby, Emily (Dan) Wall, Curtis (Britta) Everson, and Beth Ann (Matt) Koopman. She is also survived by many great-nieces and great-nephews, along with her special pet Mitzi and a multitude of friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James; her brother, Gary; and her brother-in-law, Philip.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Soldiers Grove. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Soldiers Grove.
