Phyllis Nadine (Braaten) Jacobson, age 97, passed away May 27th, 2026. She was born September 24, 1928, to Ole and Nora (Jackson) Braaten, Readstown, WI. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Franklin Lutheran Church, Folsom, WI. She graduated from Readstown High School in 1946. On March 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to Selmer M. Jacobson. They were blessed with six children. They farmed for 35 years, and in 1985, they sold their farm and moved to Viroqua, where she became a day-care “Grandma” in her home for 21 years and caring for over 60 children.

She was a member of Kickapoo United Lutheran Church, The WELCA, and Sarah Circle. She sang solos in school, church, and weddings. She also sang in the church choir for years. She loved raising beautiful flowers, tending her garden, and spending time in the kitchen, where her cooking and baking brought family and friends together. No visit was complete without fresh desserts, and a pot of coffee always ready to share around her table. In her later years she was an avid reader, enjoyed her many puzzle & sticker books, and also discovered a passion for painting and lovingly created a special painting for each member of her family.

Her husband and family were the center of her world. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother; a true matriarch who led her family with love, strength, and grace. Her family feels deeply blessed to have shared so many wonderful years with her.

She is survived by four sons: Gary (Carolyn) Jacobson, Mark (Tania) Jacobson, Brian (Jeanne) Jacobson of Viroqua, and Craig (Ruby) Jacobson of Westby; one daughter, Nora (Ryan) Christianson, Viroqua; Nine grandchildren: Nicole (Robert) Norton, Michelle (Michael) Patterson, Amy McHugh, Darrick Jacobson (Jasmine Foss), Ryanna Christianson, Carly (Tommy) Sawyer, Tia (Cody) Getter-Skrede, Jesse (Bella) Jacobson, and Colin (Jessa) Jacobson; ten great-grandchildren: Lauren Patterson, Briell and Preston McHugh, Evie Jacobson, Braxton, Colt and Rhett Getter-Skrede, Haven and Hazel Jacobson, and Andie Sawyer; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Esther Jacobson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Selmer of 64 years; her daughter Debra; her four brothers: Kermit, Obed, Norman and Myron Braaten; her four sisters: Naomi McDaniel, Rebecca Erickson, Beverly Fredrick and Deanna Gardner; brothers-in-law: Georgie McDaniel, Wesley Erickson, Robert Fredrick and Merrill Gardner; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Braaten, Nellie Braaten and Myrtle Braaten and many other dear loved ones.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Vernon Manor for the excellent care and kindness shown to our mom, and a special thank you to the care team at St. Croix Hospice for their support and dedication.

She will forever be in our hearts, blessed be the memory of Phyllis Jacobson.
