Ramon Sylvester Erickson, passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 17, 2024, at the age of 89, in his hometown of Viroqua, WI, where he was also born on February 10, 1935. A man of honor, warmth, and a jovial spirit, Ramon's life was a testament to the value of service, community, and family. He was married to Carol Ann Hooverson on June 12, 1965, until her untimely death in 1979. On October 25, 1984, he married Constance “Connie” (Bills) Daellenbach, and they enjoyed many happy years together until her death in 2020.
Ramon's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of Viroqua, where he graduated from Viroqua High School in 1953. He furthered his education by earning an associate's degree in Business Management from Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, a stepping stone that would lead to a distinguished career with the United States Postal Service. Ramon began as a postal carrier in Viroqua in 1953, and later became the Postmaster in Coon Valley, retiring in 1998 after 41 years of dedicated service. His commitment to the USPS was paralleled by his enduring involvement with the Masons and the Shriners, where he contributed 55 years of fraternity and charity work.
Ramon's life was enriched by a variety of interests that reflected his love for community and heritage. A philatelist and numismatist, he spent countless hours with his stamp and coin collections, delving into the stories they told of history and culture. His service heart continued to shine through his active participation in the Lion's Club and the Son's of Norway. An avid genealogist, he traced his family roots, preserving the Erickson legacy for future generations. Moreover, Ramon embraced his role as a performer with the ZOR Firehouse Jesters, bringing smiles and laughter during parades and community events. His passion for trains, a legacy passed down from his father and grandfather, both of whom were railroad firemen, was more than a hobby; it was a bridge to the past and a joy he cherished deeply.
Family was the cornerstone of Ramon's life. Though he was preceded in death by his loving wives, as well as his parents and siblings Tommy (Elvena) Erickson, Wesley (Rebecca) Erickson, Ruth (Henry) Herling, and Joan (Walter) Gehrke, his legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Randy (Tanya) Erickson, daughter, Tammy Erickson and son, Michael (Jamie) Erickson. His grandchildren, Jason (Megan) Erickson, Zackory (Hongting) Erickson, and Ashley Erickson, along with his great-grandsons, Rowan and Finnley Erickson, will carry forward the love and lessons he imparted. Ramon also leaves behind cherished memories with his nieces, Teresa (Tom) DeLong and Penny (Larry) Krauss, who will fondly remember their uncle's wisdom and wit.
Ramon's presence was a gift to all who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt by the communities of Viroqua and Coon Valley, where he served with such passion and dedication. His life was a beautiful mosaic of love, service, and joy, and his memory will be honored by all the lives he touched. Ramon Erickson's journey through life was marked by kindness, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his fellow man. He will be remembered not only for what he did but for the generous spirit with which he did it. As we bid farewell to Ramon, we take solace in knowing that his impact will continue to ripple through the generations, inspiring all who walk the paths he once did.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the wonderful loving care he received in the last 3 years from all the staff at Vernon Manor, and the recent care he was provided by St. Croix Hospice.
