Raymond Adrian Thurin, age 84 of Viroqua, died Monday, May 4, 2009 . Raymond A. Thurin, age 84 of Viroqua, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at his home. He was born in the township of Sterling on July 12, 1924, to Rudolph and Anna (Anderson) Thurin. He married Mabel Offerdahl in Viroqua. He served in the Army in World War II and farmed in the area most of his life. He was confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Borden. He is survived by his children: Marilyn (Dr. Edward) Goldenberg of Seattle, Washington, David (Mary Ann) of Viroqua, Linda (John) Beale of Madison, Steven (Jane) of Viroqua, Gerald (Candi) of Viroqua and Jeff of Viroqua; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Erickson and Elaine Broadhead; and sister-in-law, Shirley Thurin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel in 2005; two brothers, Norman and Conrad; one sister, Maxine Davis; and two brothers-in-law: Walter Broadhead and Ernest Erickson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Rev. Margaret Eiben-Hoversten and The Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday after 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the Vernon Memorial Hospice House. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
